DEW Point is involved in the launch of ESPA, a £40 million programme funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
This 7-year multidisciplinary research programme will aim at improving our understanding of ecosystems, so that they can be managed sustainably and contribute to poverty reduction in developing countries.
ESPA covers themes such as biodiversity, coastal areas, forest and land use, health and well-being, political economy, and water. The programme focuses on four regions: the Amazon and the Andes, China, South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa and several regional launch events in those areas are organised through DEW Point.
