Every day two billion tons of wastewater are discharged into the world’s rivers and seas. Whilst 90% of the wastewater generated in rich countries is treated, in the developing world 90% of wastewater remains untreated, which has a huge negative impact on human health, the environment, livelihoods and ultimately poverty reduction.
